Flight makes emergency landing in El Paso due to weather damage
EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) —
American Airlines flight #1897 from San Antonio to Phoenix made an emergency landing at El Paso International Airport around 8 p.m. Sunday night.
In a statement, American Airlines says the plane suffered damage due to severe weather.
The aircraft, an Airbus A319, was carrying 130 passengers and a crew of five, according to the airline.
It landed safely at 8:03 p.m.
The airline said the aircraft is being evaluated by its maintenance team.
"We never want to disrupt our customers' travel plans, and we are sorry for the trouble this caused," the company said in its statement.
Several passengers tweeted about the turbulence, saying it caused them to get sick.
There is no word yet on whether these passengers will have to stay in El Paso on Sunday night, or when they will be getting to their destination in Phoenix.
