Strong earthquake hits Kuwait, Iraq and Iranian border

Kuwait Fire Services Directorate (KFSD) said the earthquake that was felt by most of people in Kuwait on Sunday did not cause any harm. It added in a statement it received more than 40 calls from people saying they felt the tremor. 
Kuwait National Seismic Network said a tremor measuring between 4-5 degrees on richter scale hit the country, caused by a 7.5 magnitude earthquake that struck Iraq-Iran borders.  The earthquake epicenter was in Iraq’s province of Sulaimaniya, 200 kilometers northeast of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. (KUNA)
A MASSIVE 7.3-magnitude earthquake has been recorded southeast of the city of Sulaymaniyah in Iraq. The city is located in northern Iraq, close the country’s eastern border with Iran. Some social media users in Israel, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have also reported feeling tremors. The earthquake hit at 9:18pm local time at a depth of 33 kilometres.
An official from the Iraqi Meteorology department said the quake could be felt across large parts of Iraq, but reported the magnitude to be around 6.5. Initially its strength was reported to be 7.2 on the Richter scale, before it was later upgraded. Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of Kurdistan, expressed his fears and condolences.
He said: “A real earthquake has just added to the political, security, humanitarian and economic earthquakes to have hit Kurdistan & Iraq.

“Praying everyone affected is safe and unharmed.”
