The pilot of a small biplane escaped serious injury after he lost control on landing and flipped over at the Davidson County Airport Monday morning, according to authorities.
According to Karel Van Der Linden, director of Fly High Lexington at Davidson County Airport, a man took his Stearman single-engine biplane out for a few hours of flying during the morning, but “fishtailed” on the landing, flipping the aircraft over. The airplane is based at the Davidson County Airport.
Van Der Linden said the pilot and a passenger received non-life threatening injuries and did not need to be transported.
J.D. Everhart, shift commander for the Lexington Fire Department, said the aircraft did not catch fire and no serious injuries were reported. According to standard regulations, the accident will be investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
The name of the pilot and the passenger were not available.
Responding agencies included Lexington Fire Department, Linwood Fire Department, Davidson County EMS and Lexington Police Department.
