FIVE PEOPLE INJURED IN EASTERN CAPE PLANE CRASH

JOHANNESBURG - Five people have been rushed to hospital after a small aircraft crashed at the East London Airport.
It's unclear what caused the plane to go down but authorities are on the scene.
Eastern Cape Health Department spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said, "The chopper from the department has taken five patients, three children with minor injuries and two adults in a critical condition."
Airports Company South Africa's spokesperson Colin Naidoo said the main runway at the airport had to be temporarily closed due to the incident.
Eastern Cape authorities are investigating the cause of the aircraft crash.
It's believed the people injured are a family from Johannesburg.
Naidoo said, "At this stage we don't know the reason for the accident but it will be investigated by the Civil Aviation Authority and they will issue a report."
He added the airport's operations have not been affected by the incident.
