An earthquake was felt by people living in Corby and Kettering this morning.

The tremor - which had a magnitude of 3.2 - had its epicentre just north of Oakham in Rutland.

People in the north of Northamptonshire felt the quake at 7.07am, which had a magnitude of 3.2.
The British Geological Survey said that it had a depth of 4km and that people in Corby, Kettering, Oundle and many surrounding villages were among those reporting it on its website.
Many people took to social networking sites to talk about the quake.
Corby Councillor and former mayor Gail McDade said: “I thought I was going mad but apparently, yes, the ground did just shake in Corby.”

Ian Price said: “We felt it in Great Oakley.”
There is no damage reported and seismologists at the British Geological Survey confirmed there was an earthquake and said that they were still analysing data.
Clive Mitchell from the BGS said: “Our seismometer in Charnwood Forest (CWF) shows the earthquake very clearly at 7.07am.”
He said that many people had sent them comments about the earthquake. He shared a selection of some of the comments:
“My bed rumbled then it was like a thud when it stopped”

“The house felt like it jolted violently and could hear a cracking sound in house. Sounded like a lorry with engine idling outside then could hear the rumbling”
“Very quick loud bang with a quick rumble after.”
“Rumbling went on for a few seconds but the jolt felt was only for about one second.”
“It started with an almost explosive feel but the rumbling n roaring increased and was ongoing too long for feasible explosion The whole of Oakham and surrounding villages are online and yelling about how it awoke them and shook houses windows etc “
“I heard a very loud rumbling noise then felt a definite vibrating rippling movement move from the back of the room to the front. Very weird.”
“Cooooool”
“Birds stopped singing, and sounded like dumper truck lorries were passing for about 2 to 3 seconds”
“Radiator rattled on the wall”
