■~In the Book of Revelation, the term "wormwood" refers to a star that fell into a third of the world's waters, making them bitter and killing many people:

Verse
Text
Revelation 8:10–11
"The third angel blew his trumpet, and a great star fell from heaven, blazing like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many died from the water, because it was made bitter"
The word "wormwood" comes from the Greek word apsinthos, which is used metaphorically to describe something that tastes bitter. The term also refers to the dark green oil produced by the wormwood plant, which was used to kill intestinal worms.

In Revelation, the star Wormwood symbolizes the bitterness of the consequences of sin. The judgment described in Revelation 8:11 is literal.~
