In the Bible, Luke 15:22-32 describes a father who kills a fattened calf to celebrate his son's return, which is a metaphor for rejoicing over someone's long-awaited return:

A fattened calf was an animal that had been set aside for a special occasion, and was fed in a stall instead of grazing in fields, which caused it to gain more weight

In Acts 10, God gave Peter a vision of a sheet descending from the heavens. Included in the sheet were some unclean animals. He told Peter, "What God has made clean, do not call common."
