Lord of the Rings is a lot of things. It is the most epic fantasy stories I've ever read. Not just epic in scale, but the ability to transport you to Middle Earth. To the world of Hobbits, and Ponies, of small towns and wide open roads. If you've never read the series, I can't give it higher recommendations. It really is an amazing work. That said, beyond being such an epic tale, it has some more romantic inspirations.
