A pilot survived the crash of a small plane in the Knik Glacier area Saturday evening, according to rescue authorities.
Alaska State Troopers spokesman Tim DeSpain said aircraft with the Anchorage-based Rescue Coordination Center initially found the plane’s crash site near Inner Lake George Saturday night. A troopers helicopter was subsequently sent to the scene.
Clint Johnson, the National Transportation Safety Board’s Alaska chief, said the pilot survived the crash according to preliminary information.
Details on any injuries from the crash, as well as the aircraft’s origin, destination and operator were still pending Saturday evening.
