Shmi Skywalker Lars, as the oldest known Skywalker ancestor, was the Human mother of the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, as well as step-mother to Owen Lars and the paternal grandmother of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa Solo. This made her the great-grandmother of Jaina, Jacen, and Anakin Solo, the latter who was named for her son, as well as Ben Skywalker. This also made her the great-great-grandmother of Allana Solo. She was also an ancestor of Nat Skywalker, Kol Skywalker, Cade Skywalker, and Ania Solo.
Born on an unknown world, Shmi was sold into slavery at an early age. In 41 BBY, she gave birth to a son she named Anakin, who also served as a slave. She cared for her son greatly, and was willing to do anything to help him. After Anakin left to become a Jedi in 32 BBY, she was sold to Cliegg Lars, who freed her and married her. Just before the Clone Wars, Shmi died in her son's arms after being brutally tortured by a band of Tusken Raiders.

Shmi Skywalker Lars was a human female who lived in slavery on the planet Tatooine during the last years of the Galactic Republic. During her time as a slave, Shmi Skywalker gave birth to a child called Anakin Skywalker. In 32 BBY, her son was discovered by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, who found the boy to be unusually strong with the Force. He learned through Shmi that there was no father involved in Anakin's conception, leading Jinn to believe that Anakin was conceived by the midi-chlorians. With Shmi's support, Anakin was taken by Jinn to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and presented to the leaders of the Jedi Order as the Chosen One—the one who was destined to restore balance to the Force, according to Jedi prophecy.
After Anakin left Tatooine to begin his Jedi training, Shmi married Cliegg Lars—a moisture farmer who freed her from slavery—and became a loving stepmother to his son, Owen Lars. Her chance to see Anakin one last time came when, in the waning days of the Separatist Crisis, Shmi was abducted and subjected to torture by a group of Tusken Raiders in 22 BBY. By then, her son had returned to Tatooine as a Jedi Padawan. Having seen her son again, Shmi told him she was complete but died in his arms. Unable to prevent his mother's demise, Anakin gave into the dark side of the Force and massacred the Tusken Raiders, including their women and children, and buried his mother at the Lars moisture farm. Shortly after Shmi's death, her son went on to become a Jedi Knight, as well as a general in the Grand Army of the Republic during the galaxy-wide conflict known as the Clone Wars. The loss of his mother also pushed him to desire the ability to save his loved ones from death, which ultimately pushed Skywalker to become Darth Sidious's Sith apprentice.

The beautiful daughter of Inachus was yet another object of Zeus’s affections.
Hera had her suspicions when she saw this white heifer on a hill with a white cloud hovering over it whenever Zeus went missing...

They nearly got away with it, but before Zeus could get Io’s halter off, Hera sent a gadfly to sting the poor young cow to the point of madness. Bellowing with pain, she ran off with the fly in never-ending pursuit.
Io ran in every which direction to dodge her tormentor — over the hills and far away, up and down, in and over. She even passed Prometheus chained to his rock on Mount Caucasus, who managed to shout as much encouragement as he could in the circumstances.
There came a time when she reached Egypt. As she and the gadfly paused for breath, Zeus managed to return her to her original comely form, and she discovered she was pregnant.
She decided enough was enough. Egypt seemed a good place to settle. So she gave birth to Epaphus, yet another of Zeus’s love children, and went on to become identified with Isis and later Luna.
We have no idea what happened to the gadfly.
