Today, the United States made the announcment that Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be fully normalizing ties. This historic announcement is a necessary step toward peace between Israel and the surrounding countries for which we have prayed and longed to see. In June, I made it clear in an interview with The Jerusalem Post, in the context of the discussion of Israeli sovereignty over portions of Judea and Samaria, that the Gulf states should do precisely this: make peace with the Jewish state. Israel is always ready and willing to make peace with her neighbors, and this occasion is no different. It is my hope and prayer that other Arab nations follow the UAE’s wise lead and seek peace with Israel. Just as with Jordan and Egypt before it, the UAE has embarked on a path of peace with Israel that will brighten the future of both countries. In my June interview with The Jerusalem Post, I noted: “The Gulf states, who are claiming that Israeli ‘annexation’ would lead to an end to their not-so-secret relations with Israel, ought to put their requests in a positive light. Rather than threaten to walk away, they should publicly and formally offer normalization of ties between the broader Arab world and Israel if Israel gives the Palestinians a set period of time to return to the negotiating table in good faith.” President Trump refers to this breakthrough agreement between Israel and the UAE, with help from the US, as the “Abraham Accords,” because it unites the children of the three Abrahamic faiths. Psalm 122:6 instructs us to “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem,” and I thank God for this historic answer to prayer. May you who love Israel and seek her peace and welfare prosper, and may peace and security be increasingly within Israel’s walls (Psalm 122:7-9).
