Plane crashes at Gaston's, one hurt
A small plane crashed at Gaston's White River Resort Sunday morning, causing one minor injury, according to a news release from the Baxter County Sheriff's Office.
Shortly before 10:15 a.m., pilot Eric S. Neff or Norfolk, Virginia was flying over the landing strip at Gaston's to check the conditions of the grass runway.
Neff performed a steep banking turn and lost power to the single engine 1996 A-36 aircraft. Neff, now in an emergency, lined up to land on the strip at Gaston's.
However, as he began his emergency approach, he spotted people walking on the landing strip. Neff diverted to an adjacent hay field and put the plane down on its belly.
Neff's co-pilot, a a Nashville, Tennessee resident, reported suffering a minor injury as a result of the emergency landing. Neff and the plane's third occupant were not injured as a result of the accident.
The sheriff's office said the FAA will conduct an investigation of the incident.
