1 Killed When Plane Crashes Into Neighborhood
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)– Emergency vehicles rushed to the Stepping Stone Neighborhood in Douglas County on Friday night on reports of a plane crash. There was one death and no survivors.
South Metro Fire Rescue said the crash was a high speed impact crash with one confirmed fatality and no survivors. Crews are performing a recovery grid search in the crash area.
A piece of the debris from the plane crash was found in the side of a home.
The aircraft, a Cirrus SR22, single-engine propeller aircraft, crashed in the neighborhood just about 8:30 p.m. Friday behind 11083 Pastel Pt.
The City of Lone Tree submitted this statement on Friday night: Tonight at approximately 9 p.m., the Lone Tree Police Department responded to a single-engine aircraft crash near RidgeGate Parkway and Chambers Street. One fatality has been confirmed. LTPD, along with South Metro Fire Rescue, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Parker Police Department, Centennial Airport and National Transportation Safety Board, continue to search the area for debris. No residents in the area were injured.
The plane departed from Centennial Airport. It is unclear whether the plane crashed on takeoff or landing.
It was unclear what caused the plane to crash or how many people were on board.
According to South Metro Fire Rescue, at least one home was struck by debris. It is unclear how much damage was caused.
