Iran earthquake: Iran's nuclear power plant has been rattled by a strong quake

A STRONG earthquake has struck in Iran, rattling the country's Bushehr nuclear plant as well as parts of Bahrain and Qatar.

The 5.8 earthquake struck in the south of  at 7.34am BST, earthquake trackers CSEM-EMSC said.
The Iran earthquake struck near the country's only nuclear power plant in Bushehr. 
Bushehr Nuclear Power officials have not yet reported any damage or injuries. 
The earthquake was also felt in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

No injuries are expected because the epicentre of the earthquake was located in a sparsely located area, the Iran Red Cross said. 
However as many as 10 million people felt some level of shaking due to the quake, CSEM-EMSC said.
In Bahrain people were evacauated from high-rise buildings. 
Some witnesses left testimonies on the CSEM-EMSC website.
An Iranian witness said: “It was intense.”
A resident in Kuwait said: “I was lying on my bed and suddenly I felt dizzy and felt like my bed was shaking. And then the door of my room, which I had kept had open, started to bang on the furniture placed next to it.”

In November this year more than 500 people died when a 7.3 earthquake struck a region near the Iran-Iraq border.
And in 2003 a 6.6 earthquake stuck the city of Bam, killing 26,000 people.
Bam is also located near the nuclear plant but, as with today’s quake, no damage was reported.
