Two planes crash in midair near German airport – multiple deaths reported

MULTIPLE fatalities have been reported after two planes collided in midair near a German airport.
The planes, two small private aircraft, collided while attempting to land at Adolf Würth Airport in southern Germany, according to German media.
Both planes were flying over Schwäbisch Hall, around six km from the airport, when they collided at 4.15pm local time on Sunday.
At least two people, including one pilots who "died immediately", were killed in the horror accident northeast of Baden-Württemberg, the BILD newspaper reported.
One of the planes, a sports aircraft, plunged 200 metres to the ground and was "torn to shreds", the paper reported.
Further fatalities are yet to be confirmed by authorities.

Police, fire crew and rescue workers have been deployed to the crash site to search for survivors.
Rescue crew were initally unable to access the crash site.
German media has suggested that one of the pilots may have been "blinded by the low sun" but the cause of the accident is yet to be confirmed.

The aircraft reportedly came from Stuttgart and Regensburg respectively.
Investigators fear the death toll may rise as rescue crew search for victims, Germany's Federal Agency for Aviation Accident Investigation said.
Authorities are yet to name the victims.
“They were approaching the runway, I can not say more at this point in time," a police spokesperson said.
