Rachel and Leah – Leah had a closed womb up until God opened it when Leah wasn’t loved properly, while Rachel remained barren. Once in anguish, she cried out to Jacob, “Give me children, or else I die” (Genesis 30:1).
Samson’s mother – Childless until an angel appeared to her husband Manoah promising a male child, a Nazarite, who would judge the children of Israel (Judges 13).
Michal – The daughter of King Saul. Despite being married to David, Michal never bore children (2 Samuel 6:23).
Hannah – Pleaded with God to give her a son, promising to give him back to the Lord’s work. God answered her prayer with the birth of Samuel, the last and greatest judge of Israel (1 Samuel 1).
The Shunammite woman – Gehazi, Elisha’s servant, told Elisha that the woman was barren and her husband was old. Elisha’s promise that she would have a son when spring came around again was fulfilled (2 Kings 4:8-17).
Elisabeth – She and her husband Zachariah had long already given up hope of ever bearing a child, when an angel appeared to Zachariah promising a son. That son was John the Baptist, the forerunner and greatest prophet who prepared the way for Jesus (See Luke 1 for the story.)

Except for Michal, God opened all the wombs of these previously barren woman. In two instances the women were clearly beyond child bearing years, yet they bore children who ended up being extremely significant. Perhaps those who are barren are those specifically chosen by God to display His glory in a very unique way.

CHICOPEE – Jennifer A. (Bartula) Best, 30, was Called Home on Friday, November 27, 2015. She was born in Springfield on July 18, 1985, a beloved daughter of David F. and Tracey A. (Garvey) Bartula of Chicopee. She was raised in Chicopee and lived in the city for many years. During her leisure time, Jennifer enjoyed fishing, basketball and pie eating contests. She enjoyed taking her children to local parks and many local area fishing derbies. Most of all, she was a wonderful mother who showered her children with her love and affection. Besides her parents, she leaves her husband, Alan W. Best, Jr.; her three loving children, Alan W. Best, III, Ryan D. Best and Jonathan Colon; her loving brother, Zachary Bartula of Chicopee; her cherished paternal grandfather, Robert W. Bartula of Chicopee; her cherished maternal grandmother, Beverly Garvey of West Springfield; and her many dear uncles, aunts, cousins and extended members of the Best, Bartula and Garvey families. She was predeceased by her cherished paternal grandmother, Carolyn Bartula; and her cherished maternal grandfather, Patrick Garvey. It features well-known actor Dorian Harewood in the role of Judas, Dane Donohue in the role of Jesus, and Ann Brady in the role of Mary Magdalene. The back features autographs from the company.
