Flights Delayed, Roads Flooded as Heavy Rain Batters Florida

Flights were delayed and roads were flooded in Florida Sunday as heavy rain battered parts of the Sunshine State.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport spokesman Greg Meyer told the Associated Press that several flights were impacted by the storms and at least one of the terminal's parking lots were flooded.
"A pipeline of tropical moisture has soaked Florida with heavy since last week," said weather.com meteorologist Chris Dolce. "Sunday morning, parts of Broward County in southeast Florida received 5 to 8 inches of rain in just 6 hours."

Officials in Broward County extended a flood watch until 8 p.m. Sunday as drainage systems were filled to their capacity, the Sun-Sentinel reports.
Several vehicles in Hollywood, Florida, became stalled in standing water, which reached up to two feet deep in some areas, according to the Miami Herald. Crews with the Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue were working on pumps in an effort to reduce the flooding, reports the Herald.
More than 2,450 were without power in parts of the Sunshine State at the height of the storm, according to Florida Power and Light.
